Which Angola eSIM plan fits your trip?

Choose your Angola eSIM by matching the allowance and validity period to your trip, then compare the selected product details with the local network, band and speed references already shown on this page.

Start with the length of your stay, then allow for navigation, messaging, streaming and work use. Each option below is a plan size that is currently available for this destination.

Short trip

1 GB / 7 days

Best for: A short visit with maps, messages and occasional browsing.

This option pairs the 1 GB allowance with a stated validity period of 7 days.

Usage tip: Save maps before longer journeys and use Wi-Fi for large downloads.

Two-week trip

3 GB / 15 days

Best for: A stay of around two weeks with regular navigation and messaging.

The 3 GB allowance remains available across a stated validity period of 15 days.

Usage tip: Keep automatic app updates and cloud backups on Wi-Fi.

Longer or higher use

10 GB or more / 30 days

Best for: A longer stay or more frequent streaming, video calls or work use.

The 10 GB or more / 30 days profile provides a larger data pool than the short-trip options on this page.

Usage tip: Compare the allowance with your normal phone usage and monitor it during the trip.

Coverage in Angola

Africell ceased operations in Angola in April 2022; network no longer active. Rural coverage outside provincial capitals is sparse across all operators, with large areas of eastern Angola having no service.

How to check mobile coverage in Angola

The Angola mobile network source is linked below as a public network reference. Check the places on your itinerary where the source offers local detail, then confirm the network information for the selected eSIM product. The operator table on this page provides the country-level reference, while the selected product details identify which network information applies to your plan.

Accommodation and daily stops

Check your accommodation and the places you expect to visit in Angola. Indoor reception can differ from an outdoor map, so keep the property Wi-Fi details available as well.

Journeys between stops

Review the full route rather than checking only the arrival city. Save tickets, addresses and maps offline before longer road or rail journeys.

Borders and onward travel

Check the selected product scope for every country on your itinerary. Your Angola plan and a regional plan may have different included destinations and validity periods.

Phone compatibility in Angola

Compare your phone with 4G bands B1, B3, B7 and 5G bands n78 in the existing Angola network table. Support for more of the listed bands gives the phone more options when connecting, while the selected product, location and local network conditions determine the service available.

Set up the Angola eSIM for your trip

Keep the QR code and installation instructions available offline, and complete each step according to the selected product's instructions.

When validity starts: Validity-start rules can differ by product. Check the selected plan details before installation and travel.

  1. Confirm that your phone is unlocked and supports eSIM before purchase.
  2. Save the QR code or manual installation details somewhere you can reach without mobile data.
  3. Use reliable Wi-Fi to install the profile at the time recommended in the product instructions.
  4. When you are ready to use it, select the travel eSIM for cellular data and apply the stated roaming and APN settings.
  5. Keep roaming disabled on your home line if you want to avoid using its travel data.

How to Make the Most of Angola

From the Atlantic coast to the inland highlands, Angola rewards travellers who plan for its scale. Luanda, the capital, sits on a beautiful bay but its traffic demands patience; allow extra time for any city outing. For a quieter pace, head south to Namibe where desert meets ocean in dramatic fashion. Keep flexible days in your itinerary: road conditions vary and domestic flights can be a better option for covering long distances. English is not widely spoken outside hotels and business circles, so learning a few phrases of Portuguese goes a long way. Cash remains king in many areas, especially outside Luanda, and US dollars are easily exchanged. Above all, respect local customs and ask permission before photographing people.

Top Attractions in Angola

Angola's landscapes range from thundering waterfalls to vast deserts. These five places offer a solid starting point:

  • Kalandula Falls - One of Africa's largest waterfalls, the 105-metre plunge is especially powerful after the rainy season. The surrounding forest is good for short hikes.
  • Namibe Desert and Cliffs - Dramatic red dunes meet the Atlantic at the remote coast near Namibe town. Guided 4x4 trips are the safest way to explore.
  • Luanda City - The capital's waterfront, the Ilha do Cabo district, and the Fortaleza de São Miguel offer a mix of colonial history and modern Angolan life.
  • Kissama National Park - African wildlife including elephants, antelope and birds, though sightings require patience. Best visited with a park ranger.
  • Bengo Province Beach Towns - Pristine beaches like those at Barra do Kwanza are within two hours of Luanda and popular for weekend seafood lunches.

Whether you choose the interior or the coast, travel with a reputable local guide for safety and access.

Angolan Food to Try

Angolan cooking blends Portuguese, African and local influences. These dishes are widely available and worth seeking out:

  • Moamba de Galinha - A rich chicken stew cooked with palm oil, okra and spices. It is the national dish and appears on most restaurant menus.
  • Calulu - A hearty fish and vegetable stew featuring gombo (okra), sweet potatoes and palm oil. Often served with funge.
  • Funge de Milho - A soft maize porridge that accompanies many savoury dishes. Its mild flavour balances spicy stews.
  • Arroz de Marisco - A Portuguese-influenced shellfish rice loaded with prawns, clams and crab. Coastal restaurants in Luanda and Benguela do it best.
  • Pastéis de Queijo - Crispy cheese-filled pastries sold in bakeries and street stalls. A good snack between meals.

Street food is common in markets but hygiene varies. Stick to cooked items and peeled fruit.

When to Visit Angola

Angola's climate is defined by two main seasons. The dry season from May to September offers the most reliable weather for travel. During these months, skies are generally clear, roads are more passable, and wildlife viewing in parks like Kissama is at its best. The coast around Luanda and Namibe stays warm but not oppressive. From October to April, the rainy season arrives. Afternoon downpours are common, especially in the interior, and some unpaved roads become difficult or impassable. However, this is when Kalandula Falls is at its most dramatic and the landscape turns green. For a balance of good conditions and fewer crowds, the shoulder months of May and September are ideal. The Benguela Current keeps coastal areas cooler than you might expect for the tropics, so pack a light jacket even in summer.

What to Pack for Angola

Angola's climate and infrastructure demand a practical packing list. Start with these essentials:

  • Lightweight, breathable clothing - Cotton or linen shirts and trousers are ideal for the humid coast and warm interior.
  • Rain jacket or poncho - Essential if travelling during the rainy season (October to April); useful year-round for boat trips.
  • High-SPF sunscreen and hat - The sun is intense, especially in the Namibe Desert and on the water.
  • Insect repellent with DEET - Mosquitoes are present year-round, particularly in Luanda and near rivers. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly recommended.
  • Sturdy hiking boots or outdoor shoes - Uneven pavements, rocky trails and sandy paths are common.

Consider also a reusable water bottle with a filter, a power bank for frequent blackouts, and a printed copy of your passport and visa. For connectivity, bring your own device with an eSIM from a provider such as TPG Mobile to avoid roaming fees.

Common questions about travel eSIMs

Answers to the questions travellers most often ask about using an eSIM overseas, from choosing a data plan to setting up before departure. Angola eSIM

No, this eSIM is for Angola only. It does not include coverage in Namibia or any other neighbouring country. You would need a separate eSIM for any additional destinations on your trip.

Without band 7, you can connect to Unitel on bands 1 and 3, and to Africell on bands 1 and 3. However, Africell shut down in April 2022, so your only reliable option is Unitel. Movicel requires band 7 for 4G, so it would be unavailable.

Coverage in rural eastern Angola is very sparse, and large areas have no service at all. Even in provincial capitals outside Luanda, signal may be weak or absent. Expect connectivity only in and around major towns.

Your eSIM will connect to Unitel, which offers 4G on bands 1, 3, and 7, and 5G on band n78. Movicel is also available but uses only 4G bands 3 and 7. Africell is no longer operational since April 2022.

The median mobile download speed in Angola is 21.35 Mbps according to Ookla's Speedtest Global Index for Q2 2025. Your eSIM will not artificially cap speeds below this typical network performance, but actual speeds depend on your location and network congestion.

Compare 1 GB / 7 days, 3 GB / 15 days and 10 GB or more / 30 days. Use the shorter profiles for lighter maps and messaging use, then compare the larger allowance for streaming, video calls or work apps.

The start rule is product-specific. Review the selected plan details before installing it so you know whether any action is required before arrival.
