Common questions about your plan

All you need to know about your North America eSIM

A North AmericaAn eSIM is a digital SIM valid across several countries, including North America. Rather than buying a separate local SIM in each country, scan one QR code before you travel and your data plan follows you across every covered destination — no physical SIM, no queuing at airport kiosks.

Coverage differs by plan tier, but our North America plans are designed to cover the most popular travel destinations in the region. When you select a plan in the booking card above, the exact list of covered countries appears on the plan detail page. We recommend checking your specific destinations before purchase.

Yes. Install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi, set it as your data SIM, and the plan starts as soon as your phone connects to a supported local network. No setup needed on arrival. The validity countdown begins from first use, not from purchase.

Yes, the eSIM is a data-only profile. Your physical SIM remains installed and fully active — you can still receive calls and texts on your home number while using the eSIM for data. Dual SIM at its best.

In uncovered countries, the eSIM simply will not connect. Your phone will fall back to your physical SIM or show no data. If you plan a trip that spans multiple regions, consider our Global eSIM instead — it covers 150+ countries worldwide.

Yes. The plan roams seamlessly between all included countries. Cross a border and your connection switches automatically to the local network — no settings change or reboot needed.

Coverage depends on the local networks our plans connect to. In major cities and tourist areas, coverage is generally very good. Remote or rural areas may have limited 4G and fall back to 3G. We recommend checking carrier coverage maps for your destinations if you plan extended travel off the beaten track.

Most regional plans allow personal hotspot, so you can share data with a laptop or tablet. Unlimited plans may apply a fair-use speed cap on tethered traffic. If tethering is essential, always check the plan details before buying.

Plans run from 1 day up to 30 days — pick the length that fits your trip. The clock starts only when the plan first connects to a network in a covered country, so you can install it ahead of time without losing any days.

Yes. If you use up your data or need extra days, buy a new plan from your TPG Mobile account. The eSIM profile stays on your phone — just add the new plan and it activates immediately.

An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a programmable chip built into your phone. There is no plastic card to swap — you download a carrier profile wirelessly. That means instant activation, nothing small to lose, and the ability to keep multiple plans on a dual-SIM phone at the same time.

Most phones released after 2018 support eSIM: iPhone XS and later, Google Pixel 3 and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, and a wide range of other Android flagships. Your phone must be carrier-unlocked. Check under Settings → Mobile / Cellular — if you see "Add eSIM" or "Add Data Plan", you're good to go.

Open Settings → Mobile / Cellular → Add Plan (the wording varies by operating system), then scan the QR code we send by email. The whole process takes under 2 minutes and needs Wi-Fi or an existing data connection. We suggest doing this at home before you leave, so everything is ready when you arrive.

No. The eSIM sits as a separate profile alongside your physical SIM. On most dual-SIM phones, you simply assign the eSIM for data and keep your physical SIM active for calls and texts. You can store several eSIM profiles and switch between them whenever you like.

Yes, and we recommend it. Install the eSIM at home, set it as your travel data SIM, and you'll be online the moment you land — no hunting for airport Wi-Fi. The validity clock only starts when the eSIM connects to a network in a covered country, so installing early costs you nothing.

Most plans give you at least 4G LTE. 5G is available on compatible devices in supported countries where our carrier partners have built 5G infrastructure. Actual speeds depend on local network congestion and your phone's radio capabilities.

TPG Mobile eSIM plans are data-only. For calls and messages, use apps such as WhatsApp, FaceTime, iMessage, or Signal over your data connection. Your physical SIM stays active for traditional calls and texts on your home number.

Your data connection will stop, but the eSIM stays installed. Simply log in to your TPG Mobile account, buy a top-up or a new plan, and you'll be back online in minutes. The new plan activates automatically on the same eSIM profile.

Yes, on most plans. Unlimited plans may apply a fair-use cap on hotspot traffic. Fixed-data plans generally allow the full allowance for hotspot use. Check the plan description for specific tethering details before you buy.

Yes. eSIM profiles use the same encryption standards as physical SIMs. The profile is locked to your device's unique identifier (EID) and cannot be transferred or cloned. If your phone is lost, the eSIM is as secure as your phone's lock screen.

Your QR code arrives within 10 seconds of payment — sent by email and stored in your account.TPG Mobile account dashboard. If you don't see it, check your spam folder or reach out to our support team.

You may request a full refund within 30 days provided the QR code has not been scanned and the eSIM has not been installed or activated. Once installed or activated, eSIMs are non-refundable even if no data has been used. Contact support with your order number.

Yes. You can increase the quantity at checkout. Each traveller receives their own unique QR code sent to the same email address. For larger groups, get in touch for a group pricing quote.

No. Every TPG Mobile travel eSIM is a single purchase with no subscriptions, renewals, or hidden fees. You decide when and what to buy.

You can reach our team 24/7 via live chat (the icon in the bottom-right corner of every page) and by email. We aim to reply to live chat messages within 2 minutes and to emails within a few hours. For urgent activation issues, live chat is the quickest option.
