Your eSIM roams onto Indonesia's own operators. These are the networks and the frequencies they run — check your phone supports them before you travel.

Large areas of Papua, Maluku, and interior Kalimantan have no mobile service. Smartfren operates an LTE-only network with no 2G/3G fallback. B40 (TDD 2300 MHz) is widely used in Indonesia but often absent from North American phone models.
The Indonesia mobile network source is linked below as a public network reference. Check the places on your itinerary where the source offers local detail, then confirm the network information for the selected eSIM product. The operator table on this page provides the country-level reference, while the selected product details identify which network information applies to your plan.
Check your accommodation and the places you expect to visit in Indonesia. Indoor reception can differ from an outdoor map, so keep the property Wi-Fi details available as well.
Review the full route rather than checking only the arrival city. Save tickets, addresses and maps offline before longer road or rail journeys.
Check the selected product scope for every country on your itinerary. Your Indonesia plan and a regional plan may have different included destinations and validity periods.
Compare your phone with 4G bands B1, B3, B8, B40 and 5G bands n3, n40, n2300 in the existing Indonesia network table. Support for more of the listed bands gives the phone more options when connecting, while the selected product, location and local network conditions determine the service available.
Keep the QR code and installation instructions available offline, and complete each step according to the selected product's instructions.
When validity starts: Validity-start rules can differ by product. Check the selected plan details before installation and travel.
Indonesia’s scale can feel overwhelming; the key is to pick a region and travel slowly. Bali offers well-developed tourism infrastructure, but its spiritual heart remains in Ubud’s temple compounds and morning yoga sessions. For a contrast, head to Java: Borobudur and the Prambanan temple complex are Indonesia’s Hindu-Buddhist masterpieces, while the volcanic landscapes of Bromo and Ijen reward early risers with surreal views.
Komodo Island is best reached by liveaboard, combining dragon-spotting with high-quality diving. Raja Ampat in West Papua is a marine biodiversity hotspot; divers should book with operators who follow reef-safe protocols. With Telkomsel, you can buy a local eSIM before departure for reliable data across the archipelago. Travel between islands by plane; domestic flights are frequent but book seats on Garuda or Lion Air at least a month ahead.
Borobudur, Java - The world’s largest Buddhist temple, best visited at sunrise when the mist lifts over the stupas. Arrive before 5am to beat the crowds.
Mount Bromo Sunrise, Java - Southeast Asia’s most well-known volcano view. From the viewing platform at Penanjakan, you can watch the sun light up the caldera. Wear layers; it is cold before dawn.
Ubud Rice Terraces & Temple Culture, Bali - Tegalalang terraces are photogenic but busy; walk the lower paths for quieter perspectives. Pair with a visit to Tirta Empul for a purification ritual.
Komodo National Park - The dragons are the draw, but the pink beach and manta ray cleaning stations make this a full-day trip. Hire a ranger; they are mandatory.
Tanah Lot, Bali - A sea temple on a rocky outcrop. Go at late afternoon when the tide is low enough to walk to the base.
Nasi Goreng - Indonesia’s fried rice staple. Available everywhere, but the best versions come from warung with fresh sambal and a fried egg on top.
Rendang - Slow-cooked West Sumatran beef in coconut milk and spices. It is rich, fiery, and worth seeking out in Padang restaurants. Halal-certified across the archipelago.
Satay (Sate) - Skewered and grilled meat, usually chicken or goat, served with peanut sauce. Look for sate Madura for a sweeter glaze.
Babi Guling, Bali - Balinese suckling pig, spiced with turmeric and lemongrass. Ibu Oka in Ubud is the most famous outlet; arrive before noon as it sells out.
Gado Gado - A vegetable salad with peanut sauce and lontong (rice cake). A good option for lighter meals. Many street vendors serve it with prawn crackers.
Indonesia straddles the equator, so the dry season (May to September) is the most reliable window for outdoor activities. For Bali, Java, and Lombok, aim for June to September when rain is minimal and sea conditions are calm for diving. July and August are peak tourist months; expect higher prices and fuller hotels. Shoulder months of May and October offer decent weather with fewer crowds.
For Raja Ampat and Wakatobi, the best visibility for diving occurs from October to April, which coincides with the wet season elsewhere. Komodo National Park is good year-round, though January to March can bring strong currents. Sumatra and Kalimantan are best visited between June and September; the rest of the year brings heavy downpours. If you plan to climb Mount Rinjani or hike in Flores, avoid the rainy season from November to March.
Modest clothing and sarong - Entry to temples requires shoulders and knees covered. A sarong doubles as a towel at the beach. Bring a light scarf for mosque visits.
Insect repellent - Dengue is present year-round. Use a DEET-based repellent during daytime in rural areas, especially Bali and Java.
Reef-safe sunscreen - Many marine parks in Indonesia ban oxybenzone. Buy biodegradable sunscreen before you travel; it is hard to find locally.
Waterproof dry bag - Essential for boat trips between islands. Rain squalls appear without warning, and your phone or camera will thank you.
Light hiking boots or sandals - Volcanic terrain (Bromo, Ijen, Rinjani) requires sturdy footwear. Teva-style sandals with a closed toe work for most day hikes.
A travel eSIM - Preload a Telkomsel or XL eSIM for instant connectivity. Physical SIMs require registration at airport counters.
