Which Dominican Republic eSIM plan fits your trip?

Choose your Dominican Republic eSIM by matching the allowance and validity period to your trip, then compare the selected product details with the local network, band and speed references already shown on this page.

Start with the length of your stay, then allow for navigation, messaging, streaming and work use. Each option below is a plan size that is currently available for this destination.

Short trip

1 GB / 7 days

Best for: A short visit with maps, messages and occasional browsing.

This option pairs the 1 GB allowance with a stated validity period of 7 days.

Usage tip: Save maps before longer journeys and use Wi-Fi for large downloads.

Two-week trip

3 GB / 15 days

Best for: A stay of around two weeks with regular navigation and messaging.

The 3 GB allowance remains available across a stated validity period of 15 days.

Usage tip: Keep automatic app updates and cloud backups on Wi-Fi.

Longer or higher use

10 GB or more / 30 days

Best for: A longer stay or more frequent streaming, video calls or work use.

The 10 GB or more / 30 days profile provides a larger data pool than the short-trip options on this page.

Usage tip: Compare the allowance with your normal phone usage and monitor it during the trip.

Coverage in Dominican Republic

Claro Dominicana maintains a 2G GSM (850/1900 MHz) network still active in 2025. Rural mountainous interior regions, particularly along the Cordillera Central, have limited or no mobile coverage from any operator.

How to check mobile coverage in Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic mobile network source is linked below as a public network reference. Check the places on your itinerary where the source offers local detail, then confirm the network information for the selected eSIM product. The operator table on this page provides the country-level reference, while the selected product details identify which network information applies to your plan.

Accommodation and daily stops

Check your accommodation and the places you expect to visit in Dominican Republic. Indoor reception can differ from an outdoor map, so keep the property Wi-Fi details available as well.

Journeys between stops

Review the full route rather than checking only the arrival city. Save tickets, addresses and maps offline before longer road or rail journeys.

Borders and onward travel

Check the selected product scope for every country on your itinerary. Your Dominican Republic plan and a regional plan may have different included destinations and validity periods.

Phone compatibility in Dominican Republic

Compare your phone with 4G bands B2, B4, B5, B28 and 5G bands n78 in the existing Dominican Republic network table. Support for more of the listed bands gives the phone more options when connecting, while the selected product, location and local network conditions determine the service available.

Set up the Dominican Republic eSIM for your trip

Keep the QR code and installation instructions available offline, and complete each step according to the selected product's instructions.

  2. Save the QR code or manual installation details somewhere you can reach without mobile data.

  5. Keep roaming disabled on your home line if you want to avoid using its travel data.

How to enjoy

From the white sands of Punta Cana to the colonial streets of Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic offers a wide range of experiences. Stay in an all-inclusive resort on the eastern coast if you want a relaxed, beach-focused holiday. For culture and history, base yourself in the Zona Colonial of Santo Domingo, a UNESCO World Heritage site with cobblestone streets and 16th-century architecture. The north coast around Puerto Plata and Cabarete draws windsurfers and kitesurfers with steady trade winds. Renting a car gives you flexibility, but roads can be unpredictable; stick to toll roads and hire a driver for longer journeys. Book accommodation with verified reviews and secure parking. In tourist areas, US dollars are accepted, but having Dominican pesos for smaller purchases is wise. Always negotiate taxi fares before the ride.

Best attractions

Punta Cana Beaches - miles of palm-fringed coastline with calm turquoise water. Bavaro Beach is the most developed, while Macau Beach is wilder and worth the short drive.

Samaná Bay - from January to March, humpback whales gather here. Take a guided boat tour from Samaná town. The nearby Limon Waterfall is a beautiful hike through lush forest.

Colonial Zone, Santo Domingo - a UNESCO World Heritage site and the oldest European settlement in the Americas. Walk the Calle El Conde for shops and cafes, and visit the Alcázar de Colón.

Los Haitises National Park - a protected mangrove forest on the northeast coast. Boat tours reveal caves with Taíno petroglyphs and an island with thousands of frigatebirds.

Sosúa - a lively beach town with good snorkelling right off the shore. The adjacent Playa Alicia is quieter and popular with families.

Local foods to try

La Bandera Dominicana - the national lunch: rice, red beans, stewed meat (usually chicken or beef), and a side of fried plantains or salad. It is filling and found everywhere.

Mangú - mashed plantains served with sautéed onions, fried salami, eggs, and cheese. A classic breakfast dish that reflects the Taíno and African roots of the cuisine.

Sancocho - a hearty meat and root vegetable stew, often made with beef, pork, or chicken, seasoned with cilantro and sour orange. It is served on special occasions and weekends.

Tostones - twice-fried green plantain slices, served as a side or snack with garlic sauce or a spicy dip. A crisp, savoury alternative to chips.

Fresh ceviche - while originally Peruvian, Dominican versions use local fish and a lot of lime. Best at coastal towns like Samaná or Las Terrenas.

When to visit

The Dominican Republic has a tropical climate with two main seasons. The dry season from November to April offers the most reliable sunshine and lower humidity. This is the best time for beach holidays and whale watching in Samaná Bay (peak in January and February). December to March are the busiest and most expensive months.

The wet season from May to October brings afternoon showers, often brief and refreshing. Rain tends to come in short bursts, so outdoor plans are still possible. September and October see the highest rainfall and the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season. While direct hits are rare, travellers should buy travel insurance and watch forecasts. Shoulder months like November and May balance good weather with fewer crowds. The north coast can be windier from December to March, which is ideal for water sports but can make swimming less calm.

What to pack

High-SPF Sunscreen - the Caribbean sun is intense. Bring reef-safe, water-resistant sunscreen and reapply often. It is expensive to buy locally in tourist shops.

Light, Breathable Clothing - cotton and linen are your friends. Pack loose trousers, shorts, and a few T-shirts. A light jacket or long-sleeved shirt helps against mosquitoes at dusk.

Water Shoes or Reef Sandals - many beaches have coral or rocks under the surface. Water shoes protect your feet and are essential for hikes to waterfalls like El Limón.

Waterproof Bag or Phone Case - for boat trips, rain showers, and beach days. A dry bag keeps valuables safe on whale-watching tours or while exploring Los Haitises.

Insect Repellent with DEET - mosquitoes are common, especially after rain and near mangroves. Repellent is vital for evenings and visits to national parks.

A travel eSIM - prepare your phone with a local eSIM before departure so you have data as soon as you land. No need to queue at a kiosk.

Common questions about travel eSIMs

Answers to the questions travellers most often ask about using an eSIM overseas, from choosing a data plan to setting up before departure. Dominican Republic eSIM

This eSIM only provides service in the Dominican Republic. It does not cover Haiti or any part of Hispaniola outside Dominican territory. If you cross the border, you will lose connectivity until you return.

Band 28 is used by Altice and Claro for 4G. Without it, you may still connect on bands B2, B4, or B5, but coverage in rural or indoor areas could be noticeably weaker, especially in the mountainous interior where band 28 helps with range.

Coverage in the Cordillera Central and rural mountainous interior is limited or absent from all operators. Expect no mobile service in those areas, regardless of which network your eSIM connects to.

The eSIM will automatically connect to one of the three local operators: Altice Dominicana, Claro Dominicana, or Viva Dominicana. You cannot manually lock to a specific network. All three support 4G, but only Altice and Claro offer 5G on band n78.

This eSIM is a data-only plan. Even though Claro Dominicana still operates a 2G GSM network in 2025, data over 2G is extremely slow and not practical. The eSIM is designed for 4G or 5G data use only.

Compare 1 GB / 7 days, 3 GB / 15 days and 10 GB or more / 30 days. Use the shorter profiles for lighter maps and messaging use, then compare the larger allowance for streaming, video calls or work apps.

The start rule is product-specific. Review the selected plan details before installing it so you know whether any action is required before arrival.
